Niche Positioning

Choosing a specific, well-defined audience or problem to be known for, instead of positioning broadly.

Also known as: Niching down

Niche positioning means narrowing your focus to a specific audience, industry, or problem rather than describing yourself in broad, general terms. It's a subset of brand positioning focused specifically on the trade-off between reach and clarity.

Example

"Marketing consultant" is broad; "marketing consultant for family-owned manufacturing businesses" is a niche position that's easier to remember and refer.

Nuance

Choosing a niche does not mean turning away work outside it. It means choosing what you lead with publicly.
